First Day of Advent: Discipleship Tools

For some, it may seem strange to hear the words “New Year” on November 29th, but for centuries, the Christian Church has had a rhythm all its own built on the Church Calendar or often referred to as the Liturgical Calendar. While many have disregarded the Church Calendar as something archaic, the reality as humans is that we are built on rhythm. We will align with some sort of pattern for the year and while our standard Gregorian calendar serves us well throughout the year, to have a calendar built around the biblical events of the church can be quite meaningful.

Pastor Danny’s 2020-2021 Bible Reading Plan

A Year In Proverbs

The book of Proverbs is a unique and treasured part of the Bible, rich with timeless wisdom. It is meant to be read slowly and meditatively, yet most reading plans require whole chapters of reading at a time.

This reading plan leads you to open up space and time to absorb the truths of Scripture at a slower pace. Read through the book of Proverbs in a year—a few verses per day—with this 365-day plan.

The Discipleship Journal Reading Plan

By reading from four separate places in the Scriptures every day, you will get a better grasp of the unity of the Scriptures. And you can begin at any point of the year. This plan, originally made available by The Navigators, is available on the YouVersion Bible App and you can join in this study as a group and add your thoughts and insights. This is also a great way to hold each other accountable for staying deep in the Word.

Memory Passage for Advent

“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
