Philippians 1:27-30
- What are some things you have learned so far from Philippians that have helped you grow as a disciple of Jesus Christ?
- In Philippians 1:29 Paul says that it has been granted to us to believe in him and suffer for him. Have you ever considered suffering as a gift? How do you feel about this statement made by Paul?
- While suffering is a gift of God, this does not change the fact that it is painful, can you share a time that you have endured suffering and how you saw God working in that suffering?
- Read Philippians 1:30; in the sermon it was said that Paul is being very specific about the suffering he is referring to, suffering for proclaiming the gospel. Have you ever experienced suffering for sharing your faith and if so, can you share your experience?
- Based on what we have learned about Paul so far, why is he the best teacher on suffering for the gospel and for seeing it as a gift granted to us?
- In the sermon, it was said that military-type language is being used to imply that the gospel is something we fight for, how do you feel about that statement? What is at risk if we don’t fight for the gospel?
- Why do you think having a manner of life worthy of the gospel (Phil. 1:27) is the “only” thing Paul wants from the Philippians?
- If you read the passage, why is gospel unity so important for proclaiming the gospel according to Paul? Why is disunity so dangerous?
- Why is the clear sign of “their destruction” (opponents of the gospel), but “their salvation” (citizens of heaven) (Phil. 1:28) such an important point Paul is making?
- Spend some time in prayer asking God to reveal to you ways that he specifically wants to use you to foster gospel unity in the church.
